Sunshine From The East
(Based on ‘The Chink & The Child’ by Thomas Burke)
By Ruairidh Anderson
Daddy there’ll be bruises no more,
Sunshine from the East has thrown light at my door.
Daddy there’ll be bruises no more,
The whispered tide of the Thames has sent me
warmth from the cold.
And though the black clouds will crowd in low,
He’ll still hold a flame for me.
Daddy no more torments and tears,
That left a child in the dark, a desert of years.
Lodged like a knife in the heart
And softly relieved by a lover’s touch.
And though the black clouds will crowd in low,
He’ll still hold a flame for me.
Daddy you’ll be taking no more,
The only thing that you gave me was a name of my own.
And my man has nothing to show,
But he’ll give me his all, mind, body and soul.
And though the black clouds will crowd in low,
He’ll still hold a flame for me.
And though the wind’s song cries crimson sin,
He’ll still hold a flame for me.
